From dream destination to selfie spot
How do images of tourist destinations shape our expectations, and what role do social media and AI play in this?
The joint tour begins at the WTFake exhibition in the garden of the Museumsquartier Bern. Anja Lapčević will guide you through selected pairs of real and AI-generated images, demonstrating how visuals shape our expectations, desires, and perceptions. Joining the tour is travel and food blogger, author, and content creator Nicole Giger (@mags_frisch). She will share her personal perspective on travel, food, locations, and storytelling on social media: How do you create an image that makes people want to visit a place?
Afterward, the tour continues to the ALPS Swiss Alpine Museum for the exhibition "Souvenir. Selfies, Kitsch, and Summit Stones." There, the focus broadens: What do we take home from a trip—as an object, a memory, or a digital image? Join us on a journey of discovery exploring mountain romance, self-presentation, AI, and the question of how tourism imagery changes our relationship with the places we visit.
